5 Days to Keep Selling After the Launch

So, you’ve launched your book—congrats! Pop the cork, dance around the lounge room, maybe even have an extra square of dark chocolate. But then what?

Now comes the part nobody tells you: marketing isn’t a one-off event. It’s a lifestyle. And if you’re an indie author trying to build real momentum, you’re not playing a short game. You’re playing what Tim Grahl calls the Infinite Game.

In his masterclass of a book, Your First 1000 Copies, Tim lays out a framework that doesn’t just get you attention—it builds a lasting connection with your readers. Below is my 5-day Infinite Game checklist that keeps your book—and your business—alive long after launch day.

🧭 Day 1: Keep the Email Engine Humming

Email is your most powerful marketing asset. Algorithms change. Email lists don’t.

Tasks:

  • Draft and schedule 2–3 emails: behind-the-scenes, personal story, useful tip, or book update.
  • Segment your list: New subscribers, buyers, engaged readers.
  • Test new subject lines. (Curiosity wins clicks.)
  • Add soft calls to action (buy the book, reply with feedback, share with a friend).
  • Review what’s working—open rates, click-throughs, unsubscribes.

Why it matters: If you’re not emailing, you’re not connecting.

🧱 Day 2: Stack Your Content Like Lego

Think of your content like Lego blocks. Use them, reuse them, and build something bigger.

Tasks:

  • Choose one high-performing blog post and update it with new headlines, images, links, and a book promo.
  • Repurpose a post into a short video, Twitter/X thread, or Medium article.
  • Post to relevant forums with a backlink.
  • Use SEO tools to find 5 long-tail keywords and map out fresh articles.
  • Plan next month’s content calendar (don’t overthink it—keep it light, helpful, and you).

Why it matters: One piece of content can bring in traffic for years if done right.

🌐 Day 3: Build Bridges, Not Billboards

You don’t need a million followers. You need the right people who care.

Tasks:

  • Reach out to 1 podcast or YouTube host and pitch your story.
  • Leave a thoughtful review for someone else’s book in your niche.
  • Offer a free copy of your book to a small reader group or Facebook community.
  • Engage meaningfully in 3 relevant groups/forums.
  • Comment on 2 blogs where your readers already hang out.

Why it matters: Relationships beat algorithms every time.

💸 Day 4: Create Income Beyond the Book

A book is a gateway. What’s waiting behind the gate?

Tasks:

  • Brainstorm a next-step product: worksheet, workbook, short course, even a reader Q&A session.
  • Add affiliate links to tools you love (ConvertKit, Fiverr Pro, Teachable).
  • Create an “Author Shop” page: all your books, favorite tools, and bonus goodies.
  • Set up a basic funnel: opt-in → tripwire (cheap eBook or guide) → nurture emails → higher ticket product.
  • Check your stats: What’s converting? What’s dead weight?

Why it matters: Books build trust. Trust builds income.

🧘 Day 5: Reflect, Adjust, Recommit

The Infinite Game isn’t just about grinding—it’s about refining.

Tasks:

  • Review your week: blog views, email stats, book sales.
  • What’s working? What’s fun? What’s not worth the effort?
  • Journal this: “What did I learn about my audience or myself this week?”
  • Celebrate one small win. (That new subscriber counts.)
  • Rebuild your next week’s plan around what genuinely works.

Why it matters: Reflection is your sharpest marketing tool.

Final Thoughts

This game doesn’t end. And that’s a good thing.

The authors who win aren’t the ones who go viral. They’re the ones who show up—week after week, email after email, post after post.

You don’t need to be everywhere. You just need to be in the right places with the right message—and keep showing up.
